Smithsonian Tell Your Story.png

Do you have a powerful story to tell about

your work in cultural tourism in North Carolina? Have you helped preserve traditions, uplift community voices, or create meaningful heritage experiences? Now’s

your chance to shine on a national stage.

In partnership with the Smithsonian Center

for Folklife and Cultural Heritage, UPLIFT North Carolina invites cultural tourism professionals, storytellers, and heritage champions across the state to be featured in Smithsonian’s Folklife Magazine.

Selected participants will:

  • Collaborate with a professional writer to capture your work, insights, and impact

  • Have the opportunity to include photos or visuals from your community or projects

  • Reach a national audience of readers passionate about culture, heritage, and storytelling

  • Contribute to a broader conversation about how local tourism can honor and sustain living traditions

Whether you're creating historical walking tours, showcasing local foodways, revitalizing a downtown through arts and heritage, your work matters—and it deserves to be seen.

No prior writing experience needed—just a story worth telling.
